Staff parking can be suspended for University recognized leaves. Payroll deductions would be ceased as of the date stipulated on submitted form, which must coincide with the permit holder's pay date. The pay schedules are available on the Human Resources web site and examples are indicated below. Upon submission of this form, the permit holder must also provide a confirmation of the leave from the area personnel officer for their unit or the chair of the department (this can be done by email or by fax to (514) 398-2144). The parking permit presently in the permit holder's possession must be returned to the Parking and Transportation Services office upon suspension of parking privileges.
Some examples are provided below to assist permit holders with determining the date of suspension to enter on the form:
- Academics, Management, Executive and Excluded staff members: The Friday pay date covers the current week and previous week. For example, the pay date of Friday, March 7, 2014 covers parking for the period of February 23 to March 8, 2014. Entering a suspension date of March 8, 2014 would result in the permit being deactivated as of March 9, 2014. The last parking deduction would be on the pay of March 7, 2014.
- MUNACA, AGSEM or AMURE members: The Thursday pay date covers a two week period two weeks prior to the pay date. For example, the pay date of Thursday, March 13, 2014 covers parking for the period of February 16 to March 1, 2014. Entering a suspension date of March 1, 2014 would result in the permit being deactivated as of March 2, 2014. The last parking deduction would be on the pay of March 13, 2014.
- Employees who are paid weekly: The Thursday pay date covers a one week period prior to the pay date. For example, the pay date of Thursday, March 6, 2014 covers parking for the period of February 23 to March 2, 2014. Entering a suspension date of March 2, 2014 would result in the permit being deactivated as of March 3, 2014. The last parking deduction would be on the pay of March 6, 2014.
Parking privileges cannot be suspended retroactively. Every effort will be made to suspend the permit as per the date indicated on the submitted form however deduction cessation is subject to Payroll Services deadlines. If the deadline is missed, the deductions will be suspended for the next pay period. If possible, please try to submit this form one month before the suspension date to ensure that the deductions will be ceased on the suspension date indicated on the form.
The permit holder should contact Parking and Transportation Services to arrange reactivation of the permit and recommencement of payroll deductions shortly before their return to work. The permit holder will be issued a permit for the same location they parked in prior to the leave or they will be given parking in another location if the zone they parked in is no longer available (such as a temporary closure due to construction or a permanent closure because of a building project). If the parking rate changes during the employee's leave, the new rate will be applicable upon the reissuance of a permit.
