Sofia is in the second year of her PhD at McGill. She is in the department of Biology and studies division of labour in worker ants. Ants are not just a cool model: as they age, ants show an increase in the number of different tasks they perform, so there seems to be some learning going on. She became a T-PULSE fellow in September of 2009.
Sofia is interested in learning how to learn, and this is the angle from which she approaches learning: how can we through teaching help students find learning strategies? What we learn is, to a certain extent, just an excuse since once you develop a learning tool-box you can learn anything you wish. She is interested in developing such tool-box based on the general learning principles shared by different disciplines.
