Valerie is a PhD. Candidate in the Integrated Program in Neuroscience at McGill University. Her research aims to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of pain in osteoarthritis, with emphasis on mechanisms residing in the periphery and spinal cord, using the rat ankle-joint MIA model of osteoarthritis. She is currently being supervised by Dr. Alfredo Robeiro-da-Silva.

Prior to joining McGill, Valerie received her Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science from Occidental College. There, she developed a passion for knowledge translation as both a Teacher's Assistant and Workshop Facilitator. Under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Shtulman, she studied scientific misconceptions acquired through both observation and formal education, and researched how peers communicating across a conceptual divide can help each other rectify these misconceptions.

Valerie joined T-PULSE in 2017 with the aim of contributing to the establishment of a community of learners and educators at McGill.
