Upgrade to TurningPoint Cloud: Web-based Polling at McGill

Teaching and Learning Services is excited to announce that McGill will be making Turning Point Cloud available to all students and instructors as of the Fall 2016 semester. Turning Point Cloud is a web-based polling (student response) system that allows students to respond to questions from a personal device (smartphone, tablet, laptop) rather than a physical handheld clicker. Please note that physical clickers will no longer be supported for in-class uses.

Note: TurningPoint Cloud is the only supported polling system at McGill. Students should not pay for any polling system used for courses. TurningPoint Cloud is free for teaching and learning use for all McGill students and instructors.

TurningPoint Cloud offers numerous advantages over physical clickers, including but not limited to:

  • Support for open-ended (e.g., word cloud) and other question types;
  • Self-paced polling;
  • Additional reporting functionalities.

Instructors: the software is now available to download, and you may request a consultation to learn how to use the software. For more information, please visit this article ("how to request/access" section).

Students: access polling through www.mcgill.ca/polling.

McGill University is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations. McGill honours, recognizes and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we meet today.
