Alain Lapointe is an invited consultant to the Technology Assessment Unit of the MUHC. He joined the CHUM/MUHC Technology Assessment Unit in November 2006 and was an affiliated member until his retirement. He has a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal, a Master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Montreal, Faculty of Medicine and a Doctorate in Applied Sciences (biomedical engineering stream) from the École Polytechnique de Montréal. He completed his postdoctoral studies at Sacre-Cœur Hospital and upon completion joined the research team (cardiology division) at Hôtel-Dieu Hospital (CHUM). In 1981, Alain founded the biomedical engineering department at Hôtel-Dieu Hospital. After completing his Master’s degree in Health Administration in 1996, he assumed the position of president of the Association of physicians and biomedical engineers of Québec for a period of four years. In 1997, he managed the newly created physical and biomedical engineering group of the CHUM (Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal). In 2001, he took on the position of director of Health Technology Planning at La Société d’implantation du CHUM (SICHUM) and in October 2002, Alain joined the management team of the technology resources group (CHUM) occupying the post of director of the Project Management Office.
