Jonathan Glencross to receive Hometown Heroes Award

Earth Day Canada has announced that Jonathan Glencross ’11 will receive the 2011 Individual Hometown Heroes Award at the national environmental charity’s annual Gala.

The Hometown Heroes Award is presented to an outstanding individual, group or small business, who engages others to be involved in community efforts and continues to foster awareness and action. Jonathan will receive a $10,000 cash-prize, of which $5000 will go to him personally, while the other $5000 will be donated to the environmental cause of his choice. Jonathan has selected Local Food Plus to be the recipient of the prize money - an organization committed to creating local sustainable food systems which will reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and foster the preservation of farmland and local farmers.

A recent graduate from McGill, as a student Jonathan helped bring about the Sustainability Projects Fund and was deeply involved in McGill's Food Systems Project, amongst many other accomplishments.
