McGill Eats! Speakers' Panel

Confused about your place in the food chain? McGill Eats! will be holding a speakers' panel on February 9 (Thursday) at 6:30 pm at Douglas residence hall (3851 University). Speakers will include food leaders from McGill and the wider Montreal community, and topics to be discussed include local agriculture, certification systems, farmers' markets, seafood, compost, capitalism, and applied student research.

You are cordially invited to a series of informal, open exchanges hosted by Jim Nicell, Associate Vice-Principal (University Services) and the Office of Sustainability! These roundtable discussions are open to all interested participants, with one theme presentation at each meeting that can form the basis for the discussions that ensue. This provides a great opportunity to learn about ongoing campus sustainability initiatives, share your ideas and identify potential areas for mutual support and collaboration! Come one, come all!

 Schedule:

•             Wednesday November 23 13h-1430. Theme: Sustainability Projects Fund

•             Monday January 16 13h-14h30. Theme: Sustainability in curriculum and research.

•             Thursday February 16 13h-14h30. Theme: Climate change and McGill. LOCATION: 1010 Sherbrooke Street West, Suite 1032

Ces tables rondes sont ouvertes à tous participants intéressés, avec une présentation thématique à chaque rencontre pouvant stimuler les discussions qui le suivront. C’est une belle opportunité à apprendre des initiatives auprès le développement durable sur le campus, à partager vos idées, ainsi à mieux identifier les potentiels pour le support mutuel et collaboration sur des projets. Venez tous!

Sustainability Friday: Faculty Forum on Sustainability

Friday, February 17, 2012 will mark the third “Sustainability Friday” at the Faculty Club from 3-6 pm to discuss sustainability in the ASAP2012, Strategic Research Plan and Vision2020: Creating a Sustainable McGill community consultation exercise. Three Minutes to Change the World: Discover Graduate Research at McGill

Organized by McGill’s Office of Sustainability, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, Physics student Ben Harack, and the Post-Graduate Students Society, this event will feature McGill graduate students giving three-minute presentations summarizing their research initiatives and the importance of their work to the community. The theme is socially-relevant research. Presentations will use language that is appropriate for a non-specialist audience.

  • Who:   Open to all McGill Graduate Students as presenters, and to all students, faculty/staff, and the wider community as attendees
  • When: March 14th, 2012, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. (Includes a light lunch)
  • Where: Thomson House Ballroom (wheelchair accessible)

  • April 2-4, 2012 Northeast Campus Sustainability Consortium annual conference at Syracuse University. Please visit their website to learn more about the conference program and guidelines for presenters.  You can submit your presentation proposal from the same page.  All proposals must be received by January 20, 2012 in order to be considered.
  • April 16-17, 2012. 7th annual Smart and Sustainable Campuses Conference at University of Maryland. The call for proposals has closed - submissions must have been made by January 5, 2012. Website
