MFSP Local Food Plus Intern (SP0045)

A McGill student will intern with Local Food Plus, assisting with Quebec farm certifications over the summer of 2011, helping McGill meet the Certified Local Sustainable supply for the campus' food services demands as McGill prepares to launch a partnership with Local Food Plus in fall 2011.

Macdonald Student-Run Ecological Gardens 2 (SP0042)

Status: COMPLETED Summer 2011

The McGill student-run ecological gardens is a project initiated and run by students, with the cooperation of McGill professors and staff, local organic crop producers, and student volunteers. The project aims to establish a continuing structure for student-run gardens, while creating a link between academia, our local community, and our shared environment.

McGill Feeding McGill 2 (SP0038)

Status: COMPLETED April 2011 - January 2012

The objective of the project is to provide locally grown fruits and vegetables from the Macdonald Campus’s Horticultural Center to McGill’s downtown residences and the general student community.

Farmers' Market 2 (SP0037)

Status: COMPLETED Summer 2011

The McGill Farmers’ Market (MFM) aims to bring delicious, local, seasonal produce to McGill's downtown campus, with weekly Farmers' Markets throughout September and October, and a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project from July to October.

Edible Campus 2 (SP0036)

Campus Crops 2 (SP0035)

Status: COMPLETED May 2011 - September 2011

Campus Crops is a collective of students and community members dedicated to sharing skills and knowledge around urban agriculture, and to thinking critically about the politics of food production and land use. We run a volunteer-based garden on McGill campus, as well as a great variety of workshops and events.

Food Systems Administrator 2 (SP0034)

Status: COMPLETED September 2011 - April 2012

With the support of the Sustainability Fund, McGill Food and Dining Services (MFDS) hired a Food Systems Administrator in August 2010 to consolidate the food purchasing function for the department, to create more sustainable & local food purchasing at McGill, to bring fresher, tastier and more nutrient-rich food to the McGill community, and to support a culture of sustainability at McGill.

Law Plate Club (SP0033)

Status: COMPLETED February 2011 - August 2011

The Faculty of law holds many events such as weekly cocktails, wine and cheese gatherings, presentations where food and drink are offered and many other events where plates, utensils and glasses are used.

Campus "Big Hanna" Composter (SP0018)

Status: COMPLETED May 2010 - August 2011

This project will separate an organic waste stream from McGill Food & Dining Services (FDS) which will then be processed and used as compost at McGill University's downtown campus.
