Pulse Check (SP0044)

Status: COMPLETED August 2011 - December 2011

Excerpt from the initial application: Pulse is a new tool introduced at McGill to monitor energy consumption of approximately 30 buildings within the McGill campus.  This number will soon reach up to 60 buildings. Although Pulse represents a positive initiative, much remains to be known and done about energy efficiency at McGill.

Shut your Sash (SP0041)

Status: COMPLETED Summer 2011

A pilot campaign that aims to promote awareness about energy consumption in McGill laboratories and reduce it by implementing sustainable fume hood usage/practices.

EnGage (Off-Campus Residence Energy Metering) (SP0040)

Status: COMPLETED August 2011 - December 2011

EnGage is a community-based social marketing pilot project in Upper Residence (McConnell, Molson, and Gardner Halls) aimed at decreasing electricity-wasting habits.

Materials Analysis Tool (SP0031)

Status: ONGOING February 2011 - present

McGill University’s Materials Analysis Tool (MAT) is a free online ranking system that distills manufacturer information to assist in the selection of building products that are more cost effective, healthy and environmentally responsible.

Sustainable Thomson House (SP0027)

Status: COMPLETED February 2011 - September 2011

Pulse Energy Dashboard (SP0026)

Status: COMPLETED January 2011 - May 2011

From the initial application: The University has purchased an energy management software (Pulse Energy) that would provide real-time information about energy consumption of approximately fifty major buildings on the downtown and Macdonald Campus.

Fluorescent Lamps Disposal (SP0024)

Status: COMPLETED January 2011 - May 2011

Fluorescent tubes are the principal source of lighting at our university. Every year we change thousands of burned tubes and replace them with new ones. On average the University buys 82 000 linear feet of tubes per year (according to stats from 2006). We can assume that the same amount is going for disposal.

Transport Survey (SP0022)

Status: COMPLETED February 2011 - November 2011

Summary from the initial Project Application: The objective of this project is to increase the awareness of the environmental impact of transportation at McGill. This will be achieved through two step process. The first is better understanding the current travel patterns and future transportation needs of McGill students, faculty and staff.

High-Density Bike Racks (SP0021)

Status: COMPLETED September 2010 - April 2011

Our project consist of producing a high density bike rack prototype back in April 2011. Our team consist of four McGill Alumni and we designed the original rack to be modular and space efficient, while having curve that makes it conveniently easy to park bicycles vertically.
