Butterfly Garden (SP0048)

Status: COMPLETED August 2011 - September 2012

In dealing with the given problem of designing a picnic table for Ecole Saint-Enfant-Jesus, the project 'Butterfly Garden' was proposed. The project recognizes the limitations and opportunities impeded within the existing landscape. Fist being the small area of green shaded space, second being the two boundaries or edges confining/ defining the site, the chain link fence and the retaining wall.

Mac campus is a cultural and educational hub with horticultural riches that need to be showcased.

Students and many dedicated staff are the heart of this campus and collectively they grow a bounty of organic  and  local produce which should be integrated into our food services.

Pulse Check (SP0044)

Status: COMPLETED August 2011 - December 2011

Excerpt from the initial application: Pulse is a new tool introduced at McGill to monitor energy consumption of approximately 30 buildings within the McGill campus.  This number will soon reach up to 60 buildings. Although Pulse represents a positive initiative, much remains to be known and done about energy efficiency at McGill.

MFSP Local Food Plus Intern (SP0045)

A McGill student will intern with Local Food Plus, assisting with Quebec farm certifications over the summer of 2011, helping McGill meet the Certified Local Sustainable supply for the campus' food services demands as McGill prepares to launch a partnership with Local Food Plus in fall 2011.

Thomson House Permaculture Garden (SP0043)

Status: COMPLETED January 2011 - October 2011

From the initial project application: The objectives of the project are to make Thomson House more sustainable, interest the House's users in urban agriculture, attract pollinators to the associated container garden, and add to the biodiversity of the surroundings around the building.

Macdonald Student-Run Ecological Gardens 2 (SP0042)

Status: COMPLETED Summer 2011

The McGill student-run ecological gardens is a project initiated and run by students, with the cooperation of McGill professors and staff, local organic crop producers, and student volunteers. The project aims to establish a continuing structure for student-run gardens, while creating a link between academia, our local community, and our shared environment.

Shut your Sash (SP0041)

A pilot campaign that aims to promote awareness about energy consumption in McGill laboratories and reduce it by implementing sustainable fume hood usage/practices.

EnGage (Off-Campus Residence Energy Metering) (SP0040)

Status: COMPLETED August 2011 - December 2011

EnGage is a community-based social marketing pilot project in Upper Residence (McConnell, Molson, and Gardner Halls) aimed at decreasing electricity-wasting habits.

Aboriginal Sustainability (SP0039)

Status: COMPLETED May 2011 - December 2012

Over the last year, the Aboriginal Sustainability project has become a hub for Aboriginal projects and initiatives and has succeeded in creating much greater visibility and importance within the campus community. Establishing partnerships and building on existing ones has contributed to the success.
