The objectives of the project are to make Thomson House more sustainable, interest the House's users in urban agriculture, attract pollinators to the associated container garden, and add to the biodiversity of the surroundings around the building.

The McGill Farmers’ Market (MFM) aims to bring delicious, local, seasonal produce to McGill's downtown campus, with weekly Farmers' Markets throughout September and October, and a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project from July to October.
With the support of the Sustainability Fund, McGill Food and Dining Services (MFDS) hired a Food Systems Administrator in August 2010 to consolidate the food purchasing function for the department, to create more sustainable & local food purchasing at McGill, to bring fresher, tastier and more nutrient-rich food to the McGill community, and to support a culture of sustainability at McGill.
At McGill, thousands of hazardous materials (chemicals, biohazards and radioisotopes) are used by over 800 laboratories for teaching and research purposes. Under federal and provincial legislation, the University has the obligation to account for all of its hazardous materials and maintain up‐to‐date material safety data sheets (MSDS) for each one of them.
Every time a guest goes to dispose an article of garbage he or she will see that they have the choice to do something better for the environment. Furthermore, as this project will bring attention to your waste it shall also bring attention to your consumption. The visibility of this project will support a message to reduce one’s consumption of wasteful products and further promote an individual and communal commitment to sustainability.
