Do we really need better quality? How good is good enough?
Quebec’s university system offers good quality education, but we can’t afford to rest on our laurels. Jurisdictions across the world are increasing investment in their university systems and competing to attract talented students and professors. As well, employers need more highly skilled workers than ever before, and economies are relying more and more on knowledgeable, adaptable and well-educated employees. Quebec’s education, research and support services for students and professors must be competitive—otherwise, talented people will take their innovations, their expertise and their economic contributions elsewhere.
Quebec universities are at risk, and they face serious problems that aren’t immediately obvious: infrastructure that’s in need of repairs, accumulated deficits and pension plan issues. To survive and compete in the 21st century, Quebec’s universities need funding for top-notch education and student services.
