QCST 336 QUEBEC STUDIES SUMMER INSTITUTE (6 Credits)

Improve your French, discover Montreal, and experience the Quebec way of life!


The McGill Quebec Studies Summer Institute offers an extraordinary opportunity to enhance your French communication skills and discover Quebec's vibrant culture in the largest French-speaking city in North-America. Through a multidisciplinary historical approach, this 8 week intensive course brings together leading scholars in anthropology, history, political science and literary studies as well as cultural figures, opinion makers and public intellectuals. It is an integrated course in French language and Quebec history taught by cutting edge specialists in second language instruction and socio-cultural history. In order to create an ideal learning environment, only 25 students will be selected. Classes are from Monday to Friday from 9h30 am to 12h30 pm. Attendance is mandatory for all these sessions.

Benefits

• develop your critical mind by listening, reading, debating and doing your academic assignments in French;

• Take advantage of a small-class setting with the presence and expertise of two professors (one for the language component and one for the history component);

Prerequisites

Interested candidates must have a good intermediate level of French corresponding to either: TFI: 2, Compétence de base en français Test de français international. or DELF 2 A5 - A6 (CIEP); B2, Autonomie (European Council), or Equivalent

Registration

Registration Applicants must fill out an admission package and complete an admission test to ensure that they have the appropriate level to benefit from the course. The written test must be received by May 5th, 2009. Students who have successfully completed the written test will be scheduled for a 20 minute phone interview on the last week of April. Written and oral tests are mandatory. Students will be informed by the first week of May of their status. Admission package and written test can be submitted by mail, fax or email

The course is open to International Students as well as to Special, Visiting and current McGill Students. For McGill students, priority will be given to students who meet the following criteria:

  • students admitted to a B.A. program;
  • Any student admitted to a B.A. program;
  • Any student admitted to an undergraduate degree program;
NOTE: This course is not open to students who are currently admitted or registered in a Major or Minor in Quebec Studies at McGill University. It is not open to students who have completed their high school or Cegep school years in Quebec.

The Quebec Studies Department is NOT responsible for determining our program fees. The University reserves the right to make changes to this fee schedule without prior notice.
