The McCord Museum houses one of the finest historical collections in
North America. It possesses some of Canada's most significant cultural
treasures, including the most comprehensive collection of clothing—comprising
over 16,000 garments or accessories—made or worn in Canada; an extensive
collection of First Nations artifacts—the most important of its kind in
Quebec with a corpus of over 13,000 objects from across Canada; and the
renowned Notman Photographic Archives, which contain over one million
historical photographs and offers a unique pictorial record of Canada from
pre-Confederation to the present. The McCord also houses paintings by renowned
artists such as Théophile Hamel, Cornelius Krieghoff, James Pattison Cockburn,
and George Heriot. The Museum's Textual Archives include some 185 linear metres
of documents relating to Canadian history. Finally, the McCord's website (www.mccord-museum.qc.ca) features award-winning virtual
exhibitions, innovative learning resources, and a vast, searchable database of
information on the Museum's collections.
Exhibitions at the McCord provide innovative interpretations of the
social and cultural history of Montreal, Quebec, and Canada. In addition to
guided tours, school programs, cultural activities, and lectures, the McCord
offers a range of services including the Museum Café and boutique.
