Renting in Montreal

Bienvenue à Montréal!

With four universities, many museums and theatres, the historic Vieux Port and an exciting nightlife, Montreal is a great place to live and study. Often described as the most European city in North America, Montreal's downtown core is surrounded by many different boroughs that each offer their own particular charm, and that connect to the McGill campus through an extensive bus and metro network and BIXI bike rental system.

Before you start your housing search, take a minute to read our information on apartment sizes and costs, Montreal's different residential zones, and what your rights and obligations are when applying for an apartment or signing a lease.

Once you know what you're looking for, McGill's off-campus housing listings are an excellent place to start your housing search. Check out our useful links list for other great apartment search tools and resources!

Quebec Lease Laws require tenants to let their landlords know if they will be renewing their lease 3 months before the end of the lease. Therefore the best time to start your housing research is approximately 3 months before your ideal move-in date.
