Progress Report - (read the full progress report here)
This progress report summarizes the advancement of academic advising and mentoring initiatives/projects that were discussed at the October 2012 McGill Consultation Fair and the November 2012 Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) Conference.
In October 2012, a Consultation Fair that focused solely on academic advising and graduate supervision was held. The topics and facilitators included at that Academic Advising Consultation Fair are listed on the Communication and Consultation website. As a follow-up to the main Consultation Fair, in spring 2013, student associations in some faculties organized mini-consultation fairs at the faculty-level to discuss academic advising issues that were most relevant in their particular faculty.
On November 13 2012, McGill hosted a Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) Conference with the goal of facilitating discussion about academic advising and graduate supervision. The conference was intended to complement the Consultation Fair on Academic Advising and Graduate Supervision held in October 2012 and designed to provide participants with an opportunity to:
- Learn about how undergraduate advising and graduate supervision are organized at McGill;
- Identify facilitators, barriers and challenges to undergraduate advising;
- Identify realizable projects within the current academic year that address challenges in advising and graduate supervision
- Learn about tools and best practices regarding advising, including those that enable early identification and intervention to support the persistence and retention of students.
