Find Extra Money

In addition to living frugally, another way to balance your budget is to inject more resources.  Here are some helpful tips:

  • Work during your summer breaks and try to save as much money as possible. Visit the McGill University Career Planning Service for job ideas. If you are from out of town, try to live at home with family while subletting your Montreal apartment during the summer.
  • Look into working part-time during the school year if your schedule permits. Apply for Work Study if you meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Apply for all awards for which you are eligible. In addition to McGill awards, you should explore external awards and scholarships, including potential awards offered by your employer or your parents' employers. Your citizenship, special skills, club affiliations, extracurricular activities and cultural or religious affiliations may also enable you to access non-repayable awards.
  • Visit our external awards page for links to funding sources.
