US aid for summer studies

US direct loans

The availability of US government aid (Direct Loan Program) in the summer term depends on your registration status and whether you have already borrowed the maximum eligible amount of US Direct Loans during the academic year. To be eligible for US Direct Loans:

  • undergraduate and Masters Non-Thesis students must be registered for a minimum of 7.5 credits
  • thesis students must simply be registered in the summer as they are considered full-time.

US alternative loans

Undergraduate and Masters Non-Thesis students who are registered for less than 7.5 credits in the summer term are eligible to apply for a US alternative loan.

For questions specific to your situation, please visit the Scholarships and Student Aid’s front counter in the Brown Student Services Building, Suite 3200 or us.studentaid [at] mcgill.ca (email us).
