Renewing McGill’s Research Excellence
McGill has built its reputation through academic research for nearly two centuries. While research has always been a top priority, the Strategic Reframing Initiative (SRI) has upped the ante by setting ambitious goals to significantly increase our research intensity in Canada and to boost our impact internationally.
Early in 2012, Research and International Relations, which is overseeing this portion of the SRI, launched a comprehensive re-evaluation of how McGill approaches its work in the research sector, establishing the goal of identifying and implementing new tools to help researchers seize emerging opportunities and excel in today’s highly competitive funding landscape.
The Action Plan
In winter 2012, we launched our “Health of the Organization” study to jumpstart the SRI process.
We assessed the strengths and weaknesses of McGill’s research environment, drawing on previous organizational studies as well as extensive consultations with the research community. From the outset, our end goals were to find ways to improve service, remove barriers to excellence and optimize funding opportunities for the University’s research community – thereby enabling researchers to focus on what they do best: research.
Based on our findings, seven projects were identified for immediate development and implementation. Learn more >>
