A saviour in the past. A valued support now.
The help and support of alumni is an ongoing factor in the strength of the School of Social Work. In 1933, after McGill was forced by the Great Depression to set the School of Social Work adrift, it became funded and relaunched by a group of dedicated alumni as the Montreal School of Social Work.
Today the alumni support the School with donation-funded awards, prizes and bursaries. In 2007 they awarded over $100,000 to master’s and doctoral students. At convocation each year, they give prizes to deserving students at all levels of study. They provide bursaries to students with funding shortfalls. The alumni are intimately involved in the development of Indigenous Access McGill and the proposed MScA program.
