Social Statistics Graduate Students Lab

3460 McTavish, Peterson Hall, Room 304.

Ideal for research assistants and graduate students working on their dissertations, the Social Statistics Lab is a workspace for students doing quantitative research on social scientific topics. Our students, past and present, have represented all major disciplines in this area, including economics, sociology, anthropology, political science, epidemiology, and geography.

The lab was initially conceived as a way of pooling resources between otherwise disparate projects. However, the lab also boasts a stimulating and positive research environment, where students from a variety of disciplines, at various stages of graduate training, are invited to collaborate and facilitate each others' research and academic progress.

The lab consists of several workstations, each of which comes with a networked computer equipped with all major statistical software for the social sciences (highlights inlcude: Stata, PASW (new SPSS), Mathematica, ArcGIS and R).

It also happens to be conveniently located right next door to the Quebec Inter-University Centre for Social Statistics (QICSS) lab. Many of us work in both.
