MLIS students are eligible to take up to 12 credits of elective courses offered outside of the School, either in other McGill departments or universities. The total number of permissible courses will also depend on the fulfilment of SIS program requirements and are subject to approval by the School, McGill Graduate Studies, and the external institution.
To be eligible for consideration:
- Must be academic courses at the graduate level (500-, 600-, or 700-level). Non-academic continuing studies courses do not qualify.
- Courses must have a substantial and demonstrated difference in content than any related SIS course, OR are not offered by SIS but are related to the student’s degree at SIS.
Please note: McGill recommends that students do not take external elective courses in their final semester as this may delay graduation.
Current students are to contact their academic advisors to obtain full guidelines and procedures.
