Imagine preventing common mistakes and avoiding confusion when taking on new graduate students. Clarifying Expectations is about articulating roles and responsibilities in supervisory relationships before problems or miscommunications occur.

In this workshop, we will discuss existing supervisory agreements, work together to set the goals and outcomes, and focus on writing an agreement that suits your needs.

Designed specifically for the McGill context, this workshop will expose the participant to a number of concepts related to equity and discrimination. During this session, participants will examine ways that unconscious or unintended bias can work its way into everyday interactions; they will analyze culture and identity to understand how bias forms, and how it impacts relationships; and they will work through practical scenarios to develop language, responses, and strategies for addressing inequality and subtle bias in the office and classroom settings.

Dr. Jay Liebowitz

The McGill School of Information Studies (SIS) is pleased to welcome Visiting Fulbright Scholar and internationally recognized Knowledge Management expert and author Dr. Jay Liebowitz. Dr. Liebowitz will be in residence at the School from November 19 to December 2, 2013.

Dr. Liebowitz will give seminars and workshops on knowledge management, big data, business analytics and on the management of intellectual capital to develop research agendas and directions for developing curricula on these topics at the School.

School of Information Studies PhD student Rhiannon Gainor

Rhiannon Gainor, McGill School of Information Studies (SIS) doctoral student, has been named a 2013-14 ASIS&T New Leader. This year was exceptionally competitive, with 77 applications from ASIS&T members from 10 countries. This is the second time in two years a SIS student has won this award. Congratulations Rhiannon!
