At SIS, we seek to find better ways to organize, access, disseminate, use, and preserve information and recorded knowledge through the study of information-related phenomena.
As the pioneer school of its kind in Canada, SIS has been offering programs at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec since 1897. Our professional diplomas and degrees, including the MLIS, have been continuously accredited by the American Library Association since 1927. Inheriting rich traditions of service from librarianship, we recognize innovation by integrating new options into our programs to educate new types of information professionals. These programs value a human-centered approach and are articulated around three specializations.
Our programs educate information professionals who make a difference to the management and design of information resources, services, and systems.
Faculty of Education
As part of the Faculty of Education, SIS offers our students the advantages of a small autonomous unit with all the facilities and administrative support of a large and vibrant university faculty.
