About

At SIS, we seek to find better ways to organize, access, disseminate, use, and preserve information and recorded knowledge through the study of information-related phenomena.

As the pioneer school ‎of its kind in Canada, SIS has been offering programs at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec since 1897.  Our professional diplomas and degrees, including the MLIS, have been ‎continuously accredited by the American Library Association since 1927. Inheriting rich traditions of service from librarianship, we recognize innovation by integrating new ‎options into our programs to educate new types of information professionals. These ‎programs value a human-centered approach and are articulated around three specializations.

Our programs educate information professionals who make a difference to the management and design of information resources, services, and systems. ‎

Faculty of Education

As part of the Faculty of Education, SIS offers our students the advantages of a small ‎autonomous unit with all the facilities and administrative support of a large and vibrant ‎university faculty.‎
