Affiliate Membership

Benefits of Affiliate Membership

Affiliate Members at the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD) are considered Affiliate Faculty Members and will be given a McGill email account. This account is the official means of communication with Faculty Members and allows access to all on-line journals from McGill’s library.  

Policy for Affiliate Members

Nil salaried Affiliate Members at the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD) are considered Affiliate Faculty Members and will be given a McGill email account. This appointment recognizes significant contributions to the SCSD in the Faculty of Medicine. This is a three year appointment awarded to clinicians who meet all of the criteria in one of the four following categories:

Category 1: Clinical Supervision in Speech-Language Pathology

Clinicians will be considered for Affiliate Membership when, in the last 3 years, they have supervised:

  1. At least two practica
    • All peer coached or team practica will only be counted as one practicum

      and
  2. A minimum of 36 days
    • Days for Peer Coaching of Fall, Winter, and Spring practica are calculated as 1.5 days per day supervised
    • All other team practica (e.g. Phonological Awareness Practicum) are calculated as 1 day per day supervised

Category 2: Clinical Supervision in Audiology

Clinicians will be considered for Affiliate Membership when, in the last 3 years, they have  supervised:

  • The equivalent of 5 students per academic year worked
    • All students are calculated even in a Peer Coached practicum

Category 3: Teaching

Faculty lecturers will be considered for Affiliate Membership when they do one of the following:

  • Are Responsible for an entire class
  • Co-teach a class
  • Teach the entire lab component of a class
  • Teach special workshops organized by Faculty at the SCSD for the M.Sc.A students

Please note that guest lecturers do not qualify

Category 4: Special Projects and Other

Clinicians involved in research projects or pilot projects that have a clinical practicum component will be considered on a case by case basis

How to Apply

  1. In order to apply to become an Affiliate Member, please complete and submit this form
  2. If your application is approved, Lili Saran, SCSD’s Clinical Secretary, will send you additional documents to fill out in order to process your application

Additional Information

  1. Once your Affiliate Membership has been granted and you have received your McGill email account, please contact library services for all questions related to the library collection (e.g. how to access the on-line journals): http://www.mcgill.ca/library/
  2. When your appointment is up for renewal, your contributions in the last three years will be re-evaluated
  3. Special cases will be considered (e.g. maternity or parental leave)
