Project title: Effects of antidepressants on the expression of DCC
Project description (50-100 words suggested): Adolescence is a critical period in which the prefrontal cortex (PFC) undergoes substantial maturational changes. Our group has demonstrated that altered expression of dcc during adolescence leads to morphological and functional reorganization of the PFC. Dysfunction of the PFC is associated with the development of psychiatric disorders, including depression. Remarkably, vulnerability for these disorders is heightened during adolescence. The aim of this project is to evaluate if antidepressant exposure during adolescence regulates the short-term and long-term expression of DCC, leading to functional changes in the PFC.
Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.
