Project title: Synthesis of bodipy based compounds
Project description (50-100 words suggested): The student will work on the synthesis and characterization of fluorescent compounds based on bodipy dyes. Specifically, the proposed project will involve developing new borodipyrromethene dyes with different substitution patterns in their backbone that will yield a suite of dyes absorbing and emitting in different regions of the visible spectrum, and capable of sensitizing singlet oxygen. The project will require the synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and reactivity studies of the new compounds, to be carried out by the student enrolled in this project.
Prerequisite: 2 terms completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.
Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade shall be based on an evaluation of laboratory performance (40%), a final written report (50%), and an oral presentation (10%).
Project status: This project is taken; however students may contact the professor to discuss other possible '396' projects this term.
