Project title: Studies on HIV Integrase Drug Resistance
Project description (50-100 words suggested): The candidate will purify and characterize the enzymatic properties of Integrase enzymes that contain defined drug resistance substitutions and will compare these activities to that of wild-type enzyme. Two different methods will be used. One is a 3' synthetase assay and the other is an integrase strand transfer assay. Efforts will also be made to understand the results in the context of a 3-dimensional structure of the Integrase protein.
Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.
Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final report: 70%; Lab participation: 30%
