Project title: Role of TGFb signaling in human cancer
Project description (50-100 words suggested): Dr Lebrun laboratory is investigating the role and mechanism of action of the transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ) in the regulation of tumor formation and cancer progression, with a long term goal of developing novel therapies against metastatic cancer. On one hand TGFB exerts tumor suppressive effects in normal cells and in early carcinomas whereas in advanced cancer TGFβ has pro-migratory and pro-invasive functions. This project will aim at defining the molecular mechanism underlying the pro-metastatic effect of this cytokine in invasive cancers, focusing on breast cancer with the goal of designing novel anti-TGFβ signaling therapies against cancer.
Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.
Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade shall be based on laboratory performance as evaluated by the research supervisor (50%) and the final written research report (minimum 10 pages) graded by the supervisor and the course coordinator or the coordinator's delegate (50%).
