Project title: Dichoptic colour contrast matching in human vision
Project description (50-100 words suggested): The project will employ psychophysical (behavioural) methods to determine how human observers perceive a mixture of different colour contrasts presented to the same retinal location in the two eyes (i.e. 'dichoptically'). In particular the project will test between two hypotheses as to how colour contrasts are combined dichoptically, one that the higher contrast dominates, the other that the eyes average the two contrasts. The results of the project will be used to develop a model of dichoptic colour mixtures and hence deepen our understanding of binocular vision.
Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.
Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade shall be based on an evaluation of laboratory (or equivalent) performance (40%), a final written report (50%), and an oral presentation (10%) by the supervisor.
