Project title: Characterization of miRNA expression in differentially activated DCs.
Project description (50-100 words suggested): Dendritic cells become differentially activated depending on the type of stimulus they encounter. The activation phenotype depends on regulation of gene expression at both the level of transcription and translation. Recently, miRNAs have been shown to key regulators of gene expression by either silencing mRNA translation or targeting mRNA for degradation. We propose to characterize the differential expression of miRNAs following treatment of dendritic cells with various stimuli. miRNAs of interested will be identified and followed up for functional analysis.
Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.
Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade shall be based on laboratory performance as evaluated by the research supervisor (50%) and the final written research report (minimum 10 pages) graded by the supervisor and the course coordinator or the coordinator's delegate (50%).
