Project title: Analysis of PIP3 and TBC-2 membrane recruitment
Project description (50-100 words suggested): The Rab5 and Rab7 GTPases are important regulators of endosome maturation. TBC-2 is a Rab5 GTPase Activating Protein that is recruited to endosomes to inactivate Rab5. However we do not yet know the mechanisms by which TBC-2 is recruited, however the presence of a PH lipid binding domain suggests that endosomal PIP3 might be important. The student will test the recruits for PI3 kinases and phophatases for roles in recruitment of TBC-2 to endosome membranes using genetic approaches and confocal microscopy.
Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.
Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade shall be based on an evaluation by the supervisor of laboratory (or equivalent) performance (40%), a final written report (50%), and an oral presentation (10%).
