Project title: PARP inhibitor sensitization of colon cancer cell lines to DNA damaging agents

Project description: My laboratory has been investigating the ability of various compounds to inhibit DNA repair and sensitize CLL(chronic lymphocytic leukemia lymphocytes) and cancer cell lines for many years. Inhibition of PARP may not only inhibit base excision repair but also alternative nonhomologous endjoining(alt-NHEJ). In this context, utilization of ABT-888 to inhibit these pathways will be an initial step to perhaps combining this agent with other DNA repair inhibitors to sensitize cancer cells to various chemotherapeutic agents.

Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.

Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade shall be based on laboratory performance as evaluated by the research supervisor (50%) and the final written research report (minimum 10 pages) graded by the supervisor and the course coordinator or the coordinator's delegate (50%).
