(3) BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES There was no business arising from the Minutes. Secretary's Note: It has been pointed out by the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, that for the Minutes of December 9, 2003, Minute 408.2 should read "For the Honours in Probability and Statistics Program Change Form, COMP 250 ..." (4) AD HOC HONOURS PROGRAM IN NEUROSCIENCE AC-03-131 504.1 The above item was withdrawn. (5) MINOR IN KINESIOLOGY FOR SCIENCE STUDENTS AC-03-132 505.1 Associate Dean Mendelson explained that the increase in credit weight was due to the Minor Program previously having a hidden prerequisite. This hidden prerequisite (EDKP 205) has now been listed as a Required Course. He said that the Faculty of Science has a rule limiting Science students to taking a maximum of 18 credits outside the Faculties of Arts and of Science. The choice was whether to create an exception to the 18-credit limit for students taking this Minor, as has been done for the Minor in Management for Science students, or whether to reduce the Complementary Course credits from nine to six. Prof. Kramer moved, seconded by Prof. Yau, that the program changes be approved. 505.2 After some discussion concerning the 18-credit limit, and the number of Minors outside the Faculty of Science available to Science students along with their credit weights, Prof. Kramer moved, seconded by Prof. Kakkar, an amendment that the Complementary Course credit count be reduced from nine to six. 505.3 Some members felt that it was not appropriate for the Faculty of Science to reduce the Complementary Course credit count without being familiar with the courses involved, and without consultation with the Faculty of Education. 505.4 Ms. Malone moved, seconded by Mr. Lewis, that the Minor be referred back to the Faculty of Education, with the recommendation that the Complementary Course credit count be reduced from nine to six, but inviting their comments on the matter. The motion carried. (6) SCHOOL OF COMPUTER SCIENCE New Course: - COMP 669D/N CSE Seminar AC-03-133 1 credit 506.1 It was pointed out that the course description should be examined to see if it conforms to SCTP rules. (7) PSYCHOLOGY New Course: PSYC 488D Special Topics Seminar AC-03-135 3 credits 507.1 There was some discussion concerning the nature of seminar courses, project courses, and independent-study courses. Prof. Kakkar moved, seconded by Prof. Yau, that the courses be adopted. The motion carried. 508.2 It was suggested that guidance be obtained from Dean Crago, Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies Office, concerning the appropriate credit weight for graduate courses in relation to students' total workload, and also guidance for completing Section #10 for graduate courses.
