Acting on climate change: Solutions from scholars

Professor Catherine Potvin, a Canada Research Chair in Climate Change Mitigation and Tropical Forests, has convened colleagues from 30 Canadian universities to join her in a collective initiative called Sustainable Canada Dialogues. The resulting group, that mobilizes over 60 researchers from every province, has built a consensus around a plan of sustainability solutions to help Canada successfully achieve transition to a low-carbon society. Potvin spoke with the McGill Reporter about what government officials and ordinary citizens can do to mitigate climate change.

Faculty of Education relaunches Research Exchange Forum March 11

The Faculty of Education has relaunched the Research Exchange Forum events to promote faculty-wide research sharing. These regular events, open to all, are intended to support the transdisciplinary research culture within the Faculty, and to provide an informal hub where faculty and graduate students’ ongoing research can be discussed.

Health and Fitness Lab finds bariatric patients should increase activity

A newly published study headed by Ross E. Andersen’s team at his Health and Fitness Promotion Laboratory, housed in McGill’s Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, highlights the need for physical activity for those who have undergone the increasingly popular practice of bariatric surgery.

McGill International Experience Awards (MIEA) for undergraduate McGill students in the Faculty of Science support a research traineeship at a non-Canadian university, for a minimum of 10 weeks, in the Summer term.

KPE’s Daoust stuns in Marlet return

“The best player in the country,” Martlets hockey luminary and Education student Mélodie Daoust returned to the team’s lineup this week, gaining six points in two McGill victories over the weekend. Her performance earned her honours as a McGill Tribune Athlete of the Week, and she was the subject of Michel Marois’ recent article in La Presse.

Grant to bolster MJE, explains Professor Strong-Wilson

A new SSHRC grant will boost the Faculty of Education’s venerated McGill Journal of Education, strengthening the peer-reviewed journal’s commitment to the open access movement. The McGill Journal of Education (MJE),  which will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, will utilize funding from this federal program to help increase and diversify their online presence in the changing world of academic publishing.
