Congratulations to Dr. Charles Gale, James McGill Professor in the Department of Physics, for winning a Humboldt Research Award!

Valued at 60,000 EUR, this award is granted by Germany's Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung/Foundation in recognition of a researcher's entire achievements to date. The award recognizes scholars whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future.

Researcher with Faculty of Education awarded U.S. patent for sub-cellular muscle measurement instrument

Researchers with McGill University’s Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education and Department of Physics were granted a United States patent for their invention of a new technique that helps measure microscopic forces in biological samples that can be as small as 1/60,000 of the diameter of a human hair.

Randy Chevrier wins CFL’s Grey Cup, Tom Pate Memorial Award

This past week was a memorable one for Calgary Stampeders long snapper Randy Chevrier (BEd ’99). Thursday, at the CFL’s annual awards presentation banquet, Chevrier’s sportsmanship and community involvement were recognized with his acceptance of the league’s Tom Pate Memorial Award. On Sunday, Chevrier won his third Grey Cup, as the Stampeders defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 20-16 in the 102nd edition of the historic CFL Championship game.

KPE's Patrick Delisle-Houde is Tribune's Athlete of the Week

Redmen left wing Patrick Delisle-Houde was named the McGill Tribune Athlete of the Week in their edition of Wednesday, November 26. “Delisle-Houde racked up five points over the weekend and the Redmen pulled in two wins,” wrote the Tribune, “as they defeated the University of Toronto and Ryerson 4-1 each for the weekend sweep. Delisle-Houde scored what would eventually become the game winner in both Friday’s and Saturday’s contests, contributing three assists as well.
