REZ Voice and Data Information

McGill NCS offers telecommunication services to students living in McGill Residences and selected Graduate Housing buildings. Students can opt for telephone and long distance service, and high-speed data connections.

Note that these telecommunications services are not included in the Residence room fees.

Sign up with us and enjoy our REZ Voice and Data Service for your entire stay at REZ. All this without any installation or repair fees!

SHUTDOWN OF REZ VOICE AND DATA

All phone lines and high-speed data connections will be shut down for the summer on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 12:00 noon.

The shutdown will be for all services purchased through NCS and will include:

• For Voice: dial tone, voice mailboxes and authorization codes
• For Data: wired internet connectivity and REZ wireless access

To keep your phone and/or internet connections beyond May 8, 2012 please sign up for service throughout the summer months.

PERSONAL ACCESS POINTS (WIRELESS ROUTERS): A Policy Reminder

Be advised that the terms and conditions established for the proper usage of the McGill wired and wireless network permit users to connect only one computer to one switch port. The operation of "networks-behind-networks", such as connecting a personal wireless router or access point, is not allowed. View the full policy on "networks-behind-networks".

The existence of a personal, non-McGill access point (personal AP) within the REZ wireless network poses a serious detriment to the wireless network and the support we can provide:

• A personal AP interferes with all McGill APs in the vicinity, degrading the performance of not only the personal AP, but also of those nearby McGill APs.
• By extension, not only will the owner of the personal AP suffer from degraded network performance, so too will any neighbouring users connected to the affected McGill APs.
• Customer support will also be affected, as resolving wireless issues in an area containing a personal AP become much more difficult.

Note that we can detect the names of any personal APs, as well as identify their physical locations in any REZ building. We are aware of several existing personal APs and are kindly asking that they be removed. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

COMPLIMENTARY SERVICE IS BEING SHUT DOWN

We are now in the process of disabling access to the REZ wired/wireless network for those who have not signed up for REZ Data Service.

You can still sign up for REZ Voice and Data Service at any time by clicking on the "REGISTER YOUR ROOM" link at left, but there may be a delay in establishing connectivity to the REZ network: up to an hour for wireless access and up to two business days for wired access.

COMPLIMENTARY DATA SERVICE for new REZ students!

Students may sign up for REZ Voice and Data Service using the automated REGISTER YOUR ROOM process.

McGill NCS is pleased to offer complimentary data service. Each and every residence room in your building has wireless access and a working high-speed data jack into which you can plug your computer and start surfing the Internet. Voice service is available through the REGISTER YOUR ROOM process.

Complimentary service ends on Monday, September 12, 2011.
Please sign up before this date if you do not wish to have your service interrupted!

The McGill REZ Voice and Data Service is pleased to present the 2011-2012 pricing plan. The 2011-2012 prices are for two semesters and include all applicable taxes:

Voice Service comes with our long distance plan.

Data Service comes with both wired and wireless connectivity in all McGill Residences and MORE buildings, exclusively for REZ Voice and Data Service subscribers!

SUMMER SERVICE: It's not too late to sign up!

Regular phone and Internet has recently been cut off for all REZ students who have not signed up for Summer Service. If you have missed the deadline, it is not too late to sign up.

Summer Service runs for four months, from May to August, and at the following rates: Voice and Data Bundle $250; Voice Only $150; Data Only $200.

To sign up, please fill out the Summer Service Application Form and send it to rezclerk [at] mcgill [dot] ca.

Please note that requests can take up to a day to process.
