Shape the future of McGill research
As a member of the McGill research community, you are curious and accustomed to asking questions. But now it is your turn to have your say.
The process of refreshing the University's Strategic Research Plan (SRP), led by the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations), began in spring 2010 with the ongoing preparation of Faculty-based research strategies. For the next phase, we are reaching out to constituents like you for ideas and feedback about how we can re-imagine our research enterprise and provide you with the support you need to succeed.
To create the strongest guiding document possible, we require wide ranging input from the people who will be most affected by the SRP – the McGill research community. As a result, we strongly encourage you to participate in whatever way you can, whether online or through one of our upcoming open forums.
Make your voice heard
In fall 2011, SRP consultations will be extended to the larger McGill community and other stakeholders. Faculty, students and staff will be able to share their viewpoints and contribute to the SRP via our online feedback form and through public meetings.
The SRP will also draw upon data gathered from other recent consultations for the Strategic Reframing Initiative and will be developed in parallel to the new academic plan Achieving Strategic Academic Priorities 2012 (ASAP 2012).
The SRP is tentatively scheduled to be finalized and activated in winter 2012. As the planning process continues, new information will be posted on this website, so be sure to check back regularly.
SRP goals and structure
The SRP’s overall goal is to support and increase transformative research initiatives that heighten McGill’s reputation nationally and internationally. McGill, like all institutions, must make choices and marshal resources in a focused manner in order to maximize research opportunities and outputs. With this aim in mind, the SRP will:
- Communicate a clear framework
- Support and recognize excellence in research, innovation, scholarship, and creative activity
- Encourage interdisciplinary research
- Balance basic and applied research
- Support and build on the excellence of research centres and research clusters
- Build strategic internationalization
- Increase commercialization and innovation opportunities
- Improve undergraduate and graduate student research and international experience
- Give back to society in Quebec, in Canada and across the global community
