Office of Sponsored Research closed Dec. 24-January 4, inclusive

Dear Colleagues, 

Please be advised that the Office of Sponsored Research will be closed from December 24 to January 4, inclusively. If you are a researcher and you anticipate requiring services from the OSR team over the holidays, please submit your request to the appropriate team member by December 19, at 5 P.M. The OSR team will respond to all requests received after December 19 when service resumes on January 5. We thank you for your cooperations and wish you a very happy holiday season.

FRQ Indirect Research Costs Reform

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to draw your attention to a change in the way the Government of Quebec will distribute indirect research funds to institutions.

Previously McGill, like other Quebec institutions, received an envelope each year for applicable indirect costs, based on Système d’information sur la recherche universitaire (SIRU) reporting. However, starting April 1, 2014 and as a result of the Politique nationale de la recherche et de l'innovation (PNRI), the Quebec government is now allocating indirect costs via two separate mechanisms:

Revised Report of Invention Form now online

The first step to disclosing an invention is to complete a Report of Invention (ROI) form. A revised ROI form is now available online here: https://www.mcgill.ca/research/researchers/ip/reporting. The form was updated to address changing conditions concerning software and issues of copyright. The format remains similar to the previous version, but provides McGill’s inventors with greater flexibility in describing their technology and identifying their collaborators.

As part of the implementation of the AMURE collective agreements, we recently distributed and placed on our website templates of offer letters for Research Associates, Regular Research Assistants and Casual Research Assistants. Based on the input of users, we are now issuing updated versions of these offer letters in both English and French.

Office of Sponsored Research reopens in James Building

Research and International Relations is pleased to announce that the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) has returned to the James Administration Building, as of Monday, May 13, 2013.

Due to extensive flooding in the James Building in February, McGill temporarily relocated OSR staff off campus. Thank you for your support, patience, and flexibility during the period while we were displaced.

Delegate Temporary Signing Authority Menu

As previously communicated, the Tri-Agency (NSERC, SSHRC and CIHR) conducted a financial monitoring review at McGill in 2010 that now requires us to address significant concerns pertaining to the management of grant funds – more specifically, elements of McGill’s control framework for the administration of grant funds. A Steering Committee and Advisory Committee at McGill were created to direct and validate solutions proposed by the Tri-Agency Response Implementation Group (TRIG) to address the Tri-Agency recommendations.
