McGill University has always promoted both fundamental and applied research, and proudly stands on the cutting edge in many fields. McGill also has a long and excellent record in research and scholarship, with particularly strong traditions in science, medicine, engineering and agriculture.

Researchers at McGill are affiliated with about 75 major research centres and networks and range widely in discipline: everything from aerospace medicine, to telecommunications, to youth gambling. McGill also has research partnerships with other universities, government and industry both in Quebec and Canada, as well as throughout North America and dozens of other countries.

The Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and Innovation) is responsible for the promotion and advancement of research across the McGill community and serves the research community is a variety of ways. Specifically we are responsible for:

  • Leading strategic interactions with the federal and provincial granting agencies, foundations and other research sponsors.
  • Building relationships with industry to create partnerships of mutual benefit.
  • Serving as McGill’s lead representative for external organizations that sponsor and impact research nationally and internationally.
  • Working with McGill Senior Administration leaders and Faculty leaders on pan-University research initiatives.
  • Leading McGill in the International arena and advancing McGill’s international standing globally.
  • Promoting research integrity and the ethical conduct of research.
  • Overseeing the activities of the Office of Sponsored Research which develops and highlights research opportunities to faculty and provides service and support to the research community through the funding process from application to award management.
