The teaching assistants' strike is still on, but we may see the weeks of negotiations wrap up soon.
As of five o'clock in the morning on May 1, the university negotiating team and the TA union executive announced that they had agreed to recommend acceptance of a new contract. The union goes to a ratification vote tonight, Thursday, May 8.
Stuart Price, Associate Vice-Principal (Academic Staff and Planning) says that he hopes the union accepts the offer, which he thinks is in the best interests of the undergraduate and graduate students at McGill.
McGill's teaching assistants, part of the Association of Graduate Students Employed at McGill (AGSEM), have been on strike since noon, April 24, and have been picketing outside of the Roddick Gates.
At the request of the government-appointed conciliator, the terms of the contract are confidential until after the vote. Keep an eye out for updates on the McGill home page, www.mcgill.ca, starting Friday.
