In a rapidly increasing technical, computer-based, and mathematical world where procedural knowledge needs to be generated quickly rather than merely mechanically applied, skills such as problem-solving ability and critical thinking are of paramount importance.

In short, we must teach our students to be innovative researchers of knowledge. We can do this by not driving a wedge between research and teaching but rather by courting their synergistic relationship.
