The Respiratory Epidemiology and Clinical Research Unit (RECRU), is one of the clinical epidemiology units which contribute to the teaching activities (medical students and post graduates) of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Occupational Health of McGill University.
Research activities at the RECRU encompass a very broad field, including both clinical and community-based studies, targeting populations within Quebec, Canada and elsewhere, including the Caribbean, Central America, and Africa. Methodologies include epidemiologic surveys, clinical trials, clinical research, geographic information systems, molecular epidemiology, and economic analyses.
Substantive areas of research include epidemiology and clinical aspects of tuberculosis, international health, translational research, COPD and pulmonary rehabilitation, asthma, occupational lung health, gender and lung health, obstructive sleep apnea, health service delivery, critical care, nosocomial complications, delirium in the ICU, clostridium difficile.
The RECRU is located at the Montreal Chest Institute where members enjoy ready access to its clinical facilities, and conduct clinical research involving "Chest" patients. The Meakins Christie Laboratories is adjacent to the Chest and RECRU members can also access the laboratory facilities and collaborative involvement of the basic science researchers at the "Meakins".
