LGBTQ and Friends Faculty/Staff Social Hour
Starting this year, the SEDE office is pleased to announce the launch of
the new LGBTQ and Friends Faculty/Staff Social Hour . This monthly
event will provide the opportunity for McGill faculty and staff to eat,
drink and socialize informally with colleagues from across the university.
This event is hosted by the Social Equity and Diversity in Education office
(SEDE) in collaboration with the McGill Equity Subcommittee on Queer
People. The next Social hour will take place Wednesday, December 9th,
2009.
What: LGBTQ and Friends Faculty/Staff Social Hour
Who: LGBTQ Faculty, Staff, Post Docs and their friends and
spouses
Where: the main floor of Thomson House, at 3650 McTavish
(come through the front entrance and head for the room straight at the
back).
When: Monthly. Next Social Hour on Wednesday, December
9th, 2009 from 5:15 to 6:30PM

- "Pink Blood: Homophobic Violence in Canada." McGill grad Doug Janoff
talked about his recent book in which he details examples of homophobic
violence in Canada and also examines the concepts of homophobia, homophobic
legal practices, hate crime legislation, regulation of homosexuality by the

Counselling Psychology), Andrew Jarjour (Ph.D. candidate, Neurology &

- "The Future of Queer at McGill?", a panel with guests Jude Tate
(University of Toronto's Coordinator for LGBTQ Resources and Programs), Ann
Kerby (Director of Advocacy and Support Services at Concordia), and Donald
Boisvert (Professor in the minor program in Sexuality and Diversity Studies
and Dean of Students at Concordia), as well as representatives from Queer
McGill and Project Interaction. (February 2002)
- "Homophobia and Transphobia at McGill?", a Town Hall meeting that was
attended by 70 students, faculty and staff. (November 2001)
- A staff training day for those working in McGill Student Services where
Francoise Susset and Bill Ryan offered an excellent education program on
issues of diversity and ways of supporting LGBT students. (November 2001)
