Message from Principal Heather Munroe-Blum, January 24, 2012
Shortly before the holiday break, I received The Report of the Internal Investigation into the Events of November 10, 2011 from Dean Jutras, which was immediately sent out to the McGill community. I want to thank Dean Jutras warmly for this service to the University. He dealt with difficult issues independently, promptly and thoroughly.
Many of you have asked when you will receive the administrative response to the Report. As a first response to the Report, let me say that the Senior Administration accepts the Report, and all six of the Report’s recommendations, and we commit to implement them. While some obvious follow-up is under way, we are listening to feedback, as I promised in December that we would, before finalizing the implementation plans. We are receiving feedback from McGill’s governing bodies and from those who responded to my email sent to the McGill community on December 15, which welcomed comments. We had a full discussion on the Report at Senate on January 18. A special meeting of the Board of Governors is called for January 31 and I will be meeting with representatives of student executives from across the Faculties, as well as SSMU and PGSS the same week.
As I indicated on December 15, the Report is available online at http://www.mcgill.ca/dean-jutras-report/. My thanks to everyone who has taken the time to provide feedback. If you haven’t already sent comments and wish to, please do so by emailing report [dot] comments [at] mcgill [dot] ca – I look forward to hearing from you.
Once we have had the opportunity to consider the Report, together, I will make public my response in early February, including when and how the recommendations will be implemented. I thank you again for your input on the Report. I hope you all enjoyed a good end-of-year break and that you are managing to stay warm in our cold Montreal winter, as we embrace 2012.
