ISID to be a Strategic Partner in the newly announced Canadian International Institute for Extractive Industries and Development

Published: 23 Nov 2012

ISID is very pleased to announce that we will be a strategic partner in the new Canadian International Institute for Extractive Industries and Development as part of the successful bid for a $25 million, 5-year grant from CIDA. The Institute will be based in Vancouver, with University of British Columbia’s Institute of Mining Engineering and Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business as the lead partners. ISID will play a key role in providing a multidisciplinary approach from the social sciences to complement the contributions from engineering and business administration.

This is a very important opportunity for ISID. It grew out of our Vancouver Exec Ed Program, when Founding Director Philip Oxhorn and Executive Director Robin McLay had the opportunity to meet with the Dean of the FSU business school. Together with ISID's very successful November Exec Ed Course on Corporate Social Responsibility, which brought together a diverse group of 40 participants from around the world that represented the private sector, non-governmental organizations, the public sector, philanthropic foundations and community representatives, we have laid an solid foundation for future research and growth.
