McGill University – Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Sustainable Crop Genetic Improvement

The Department of Plant Science of McGill University’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences invites applications for a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor, in the area of sustainable crop genetic improvement and plant breeding for crop adaptation to stresses associated with climate change.

The successful candidate will have a solid background in crop plant breeding, quantitative genetics and genomic selection, sustainable cropping systems, and high throughput genotyping and phenotyping methods to complement the current expertise in the department. The research focus would be on the use of genetic variations related to abiotic or biotic stress response in plants of economic importance to Canada such as field or horticultural crops, and lead to cultivar development and registration.

The successful candidate is expected to teach core courses (such as Statistical methods, Cropping systems) in the Faculty’s undergraduate programs and a graduate course in Sustainable Crop Improvement. Participation in Department, Faculty, and University committees is expected, as is interactions with provincial organizations and professional societies.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Crop Science, Plant Breeding, Plant Biology or related field; track record and demonstrated excellence in classical plant breeding and the use of phenotyping/phenomics/genomic methods. Knowledge of French is an asset.

McGill’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is located on the Macdonald Campus, 30 km from the city of Montreal, where there is a concentration of life sciences and pharmaceutical companies. The Campus comprises 650 hectares of farm and forested lands, experimental field stations and state-of-the-art student learning facilities (library and computer laboratories).
