2011 PFSS Taylor Gorham B.Sc. Biology Minor Environment
"I’m in my second month of a Conservation Science masters at Imperial College London. It’s a great course and I’m having an amazing time. I just wanted to say how much PFSS helped me to prepare for doing graduate level work and particularly for the interdisciplinary work that I’m doing now. Of course having field experience in a foreign country is always helpful to give access to new perspectives, but the focuses on working with local people, on environment-development conflicts and on carefully considering the role of scientists and of science in advancing positive change made PFSS more challenging and I think more useful than other field courses I could have done. I think I learned more useful lessons in my 6 months in Panama than I did in the rest of my time at McGill. I am one of the youngest students on the Imperial course and I have less field experience than half of them, but I feel as or even better prepared than some older students here, largely because of the classes that I took in Panama. So I just wanted to say thank you for running PFSS and I hope that future students get as much out of it as I did!"
