McGill Password Reset

At the end of March 2017, McGill required all users to reset their McGill Passwords.

Passwords that have not been changed since March 8th 2017 need to be changed as soon as possible.

Be sure to choose a new password that is distinctly different from your previous passwords, and never use your McGill password for personal accounts, banking, social media, etc. Follow the instructions below.

Alumni

  • If you know your McGill ID or Alumni ID number, Year of Graduation, and Faculty/School of Graduation go to McGill Alumni Password Recovery
  • If you can't use the method above to reset your password, contact the IT Service Desk for assistance.

McGill resource account managers have until May 24 to change their passwords:

If you know the current/old McGill Password of the account, use one of the following methods to change your resource account password :

A) Go to Password Update  and enter the information as prompted on screen.
B) Go to Reggie. Click on Change Account Information; then select McGill Password.
C) Log into a McGill-managed Windows computer, on the campus network, using the resource account and current password. Then press CTRL-ALT-DELETE and choose "Change a password...". After changing the password, log off and back on again.

Instructions for changing your McGill Password - students faculty and staff

If you know your 9-digit McGill ID number and Minerva PIN...

  1. Log into Minerva with your McGill ID & PIN
  2. Go to the Personal Menu and click Password for McGill Username
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. Refer to the Password Reset Checklist

Change McGill Password


If you don't know your Minerva PIN, but can answer your Security Question...

  1. On the left side of the Minerva login page, enter your McGill ID number and click the FORGOT PIN? link.
  2. Answer your security question, when prompted and follow instructions to reset your PIN.
  3. Go to the Personal Menu > Password for McGill Username and follow the instructions to change your McGill Password.
  4. Refer to the Password Reset Checklist for further instructions.

Minerva Answer Security Question


If you have an alternate email address on file...

  1. On the left side of the Minerva login page, enter your McGill ID number and click FORGOT PIN? (you can also click FORGOT ID? to have your McGill ID number sent to you via the email address on file).

  2. On the Security Answer page, click FORGOT ANSWER?

  3. You will be prompted to enter a valid Email address that is already on file, where you can receive a PIN reset link.

  4. Once you reset your PIN, go to the Minerva Personal Menu > Password for McGill Username and follow instructions to reset your McGill Password.
