Academic Advising and Registration Deadlines:
All currently registered students who expect to return to McGill are strongly encouraged to meet with their adviser(s) and to register for fall term courses before leaving for the summer. All courses have enrolment caps. If you do not register until August, the courses you choose (or need for your program) may be full. Make sure you register in at least one course prior to the date when late registration fees are charged.
Freshman Advising Appointments:
If at the end of the current term you will have 97 or more credits left to complete your degree requirements, you will be continuing in the Freshman program. You should email your Faculty adviser directly for an appointment.
Departmental Academic Advising Appointments:
If at the end of the current term you will have 96 or fewer credits left to complete your degree requirements, you should either be registered in a departmental program or be prepared to choose one for the upcoming year. Contact the department(s) directly for an appointment with your adviser to review program requirements.
Bring the following with you to your appointment:
- Minerva Course Selection Form [.pdf]
- Printout from Minerva of your advising transcript
- Printout from Minerva of your degree evaluation report
For Freshman students who uncertain which program(s) they wish to choose, Arts OASIS advisers will offer degree planning workshops in March (please check the 'Announcements' section of the Arts OASIS homepage and the cabinet in the Leacock corridor for the schedule). Arts OASIS faculty advisers will also contact you and provide you with dates, times and locations. If you know which programs interest you, departmental academic advisers are available to meet with during the spring advising period.
Fall/Winter Term Registration:
All students should familiarize themselves with the eCalendar. Students are responsible for adhering to the course change and withdrawal deadlines. Please note that late registration fees apply after a certain date (check date here).
Faculty Policy Regarding Course Selection:
Please refer to the course requirement information in the eCalendar regarding courses for which you may register. Note, in particular, the policy regarding courses offered by other faculties. Not all courses offered by other faculties will be approved for credit towards your degree requirements, even if you successfully register for them on Minerva. Once course change period is over, these courses will be flagged on your recordand will not contribute to your credit count or your CGPA.
Students registered in programs requiring courses in the Faculty of Management (Minor in Management, Minor in Marketing, Minor in Finance, Minor in Operations Management, Joint Honours Economics and Accounting, Joint Honours Economics and Finance, Faculty program in Industrial Relations, etc.) may register early in specific courses. See the eCalendar and key dates
All Management courses have enrolment caps. Students in the above programs are therefore strongly encouraged to take advantage of the early registration dates. Although registration in Management courses opens to all students at a later date (check date here), other course controls may continue to block registration (e.g., pre-requisite controls, faculty restrictions, etc.). You may have to consult with the Faculty of Management to obtain permission to register.
Continuing Education Courses:
Early registration in Continuing Education courses is restricted to students in Continuing Education programs. Arts students may register for Continuing Education courses at a later date (check date here). Note that courses offered by Continuing Education will not count for credit towards the BA degree. Courses administered by Continuing Education but offered by the undergraduate faculties (e.g., Economics or Chemistry) can be counted for credit towards the BA degree.
